Michele S. Berk, Ph.D., is a licensed clinical psychologist and Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences in the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Stanford University School of Medicine. She received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from New York University in 2001 and completed postdoctoral training at the University of Pennsylvania under the mentorship of Dr. Aaron Beck. Prior to joining Stanford in 2015, she served on the faculty at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA for nine years.

Dr. Berk is an expert in evidence-based treatments for adolescents experiencing suicidal thoughts, suicide attempts, and self-harm behaviors. Her research has been funded by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), and Stanford University, with a particular focus on the use of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for adolescents and their parents. She has authored numerous publications on evidence-based treatments for youth at risk for suicide and self-harm and has presented extensively on these topics at national and regional conferences.

In addition to her research and clinical work, Dr. Berk serves as Director of the Adolescent Dialectical Behavior Therapy Program and the Adolescent Safety Assessment Program at Stanford. Through her clinical leadership, research, and teaching, she is committed to advancing effective, compassionate, and evidence-based approaches to suicide prevention and supporting the mental health of children, adolescents, and their families.
